I would beg to differ about "substances" as used by a bottom. Everyone is different, but as a sub I have been using 420 to relax and help me enjoy a scene for over forty years now. IMHO, 420 and BDSM were made for each other...

Before covid, I ent out to a bar for a drink. Met an older gentlemen in his 70's, close to 300 pounds. ice guy. We got to talking and he asked if I would go home with him so he could give me a hand job. He'd pay me. I had a few drinks by now and said sure, nothing else to do. He restrained me to a chair something similar and blindfolded me. Wish it could have been a mask like this one. Anyway, he asked if I'd be ok if he attached some electro to my balls. I had tried it before and wasn't any big deal so I said sure. Well turns out the electro was similar to this one, not the cheap ones you buy in adult stores. The only thing different, he attached sharp metal clamps to my nipples instead of rubbing them He'd jingle the chain causing them to dig into me making my cock hard and bouncing instead of rubbing them. He progressed the intensity similar to this video, slowly jerking my cock and by the time it was maxed out, my body was convulsing and I had the most explosive cumshot I've ever had. when i was able to get my breath and be in control, he untied me. He started to give me money, I turned it down because what I had just experienced was awesome. I met up with him a few more times but sadly he passed away. Will never forget the dude.

I don't use poppers, or for that matter any substance that alters the sub's judgment, his pain perception or tolerance. The adrenaline, endorphin and dopamine naturally released by the body during play in response to pain and pleasure are more than enough to get a sub into a natural high

TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) units are originally medical devices used for therapeutic purposes. Due to the use of electrical currents, they do come with some restrictions, such as not using them near the neck, heart, with pacemakers, ... but are otherwise designed to be safe for use on the human body.
What it feels like depends on a number of factors, including the size and shape of the electrodes, resistance of the skin, quality of contact with the skin, placement of the electrodes on the body, the distance between them, the shape of the signal, its intensity, duty cycle, and frequency, ...
The sensations vary from a pleasant (sometimes capable of inducing hands free orgasm) to painful, from a light tingling to outright excruciating, and at high power from sharp stinging sensations (as if repeatedly pricked with needles) to deeper thuddier ones (as if being hit repeatedly)

I want to try estim on my balls, but I have a couple questions. First, does it really fry the balls, meaning you are risking permanent damage to the nerves? Second, what does it feel like: is it a pressure, an irritation, a buzzing? There must be a limit to using electro on the body, and maybe Alfred and Red are close to that limit. These two are an amazing duo and I admire Red for his stamina. Clearly, he loves it! I imagine a guy would have to work up to taking estim at that level and for that long.
